Dr. Day is a Professor in the Department of Neurobiology at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, where he is the Director of the UAB Comprehensive Neuroscience Center and holds the Michael J. Friedlander Heersink Endowed Professorship. Dr. Day received his B.A. from Auburn University and his Ph.D. from the University of North Carolina prior to conducting postdoctoral training at UAB. He joined the faculty at the University of Alabama at Birmingham in 2014. The Day laboratory uses gene editing, single cell sequencing, electrophysiology, and behavioral approaches to explore how experience modifies gene expression to shape neuronal function, with an emphasis on the brain circuits that regulate motivated behavior. Work in Dr. Day’s lab is currently funded by the National Institute on Drug Abuse and the McKnight Foundation.
